“It's
spring fever. That is what the name of it is. And when you've got it, you want -
oh, you don't quite know what it is you do want, but it just fairly makes your
heart ache, you want it so!”so said Mark
Twain. Well it’s May and although spring is soon to be on its way out we still
have that “heart ache” for something or someone special. We call it love –
and that is the theme of our concert today!
As
Broadway celebrates its centenary this year, we bring you a variety of songs
from “tin pan alley” to contemporary Broadway. We also have a selection of
songs which predate Broadway by as much as a couple of centuries, but, they all
have one thing in common – love! The passion of it, the heartaches it causes,
unrequited love of course, as well as the joy it brings to those who are
fortunate enough to be captured. There is no love greater than a mother’s of
course, and on this day dedicated to her we dedicate our musical extravaganza to
all mothers. Mark Twain also said – “My
mother had a great deal of trouble with me, but I think she enjoyed it’, and
as we know, it was - because she loved him.
